Upgrade AQP rumors

I’ve heard that upgrade training is AQP now, and they may pair upgrades with new hires and do the whole type training again with them. Anybody know anything about this? Will AQP affect much?

AQP will be a vast improvement to training, but pairing new upgrades with new hires sounds like a ship driving straight into a hurricane.

It actually works out not too bad. Captains should have the knowledge of the operations down, which is something new hires don’t know about. And with you guys, new captains upgrading should already have decent knowledge of the aircraft.

What do you think happens when both of them are released to the line?

True, however I still think it's best to keep the new hires in the new hire room. Most people that upgrade here, it's their first upgrade. Having a useless FO sitting next to you makes things that much more difficult when trying to learn how to be an effective commander...other than telling the FO to sit on his hands. But otherwise, you're right...as soon as the newly minted upgrade hits the line, it's going to be a revolving door of new hires unless they hold out for quite a long time.

I heard the check airman fought to keep the Oral part of the process and succeeded, so upgrades won't be getting the benifit of no oral with the AQP.

As it should be. A new captain shouldn’t get through without an oral.

Mike Dee just told our PTAT class something along the likes of trial classes starting Q1 2020. Systems written exam and an oral centered around FOM/ SOP type stuff. Looking for approval shortly after the trial classes.

ha ha, for sure I can imagine Melody or Cover pushing for this to keep running their special orals. Would have been interesting listenings if there was a CVR in the orals and check rides
