Default Jumpseat Etiquette

I’m a little on edge right now, sorry. I’m probably gonna be in the Jumpseat tomorrow going home to say goodbye to my best friend growing up. I really wish I spent more time at home than I did. This thread has hit a nerve. Home is more important than work. This job, which I accept and understand the consequences, is the main reason I haven’t been home for many, many days and months. I really hope everyone values their time at home with their Family and Friends.

This might be a first for me. Someone getting upset because got bumped trying to get to work, while the other guy is going home. Use the commuter clause, that’s what it’s there for. Usually most of us get irritated getting bumped trying to get home, and not the other way around.

No offense to OP, but you come across pretty entitled here. Jumpseat priorities seemed to have been followed and you can’t fault the RP pilot for following his or her protocols. Sorry not sorry. Why you wanna go to work so bad anyway?

I am not interested in a JS war because there are no winners but calling out someone for their selfishness ways is totally warranted. I consistently leave the day before of my show with a minimum of three flights but this type of behavior carries the risk of costing another pilot thousands of dollars in lost pay due to commuter protection trip loss. Personally, I would never do it to another pilot. Disagree if you want. I’ve said my piece and it’s over. Bottom line, take care of your fellow pilot because he/she may be on the hiring board of your next airline.

Not interested in a jumpseat war.....proceeds to start a jumpseat war.

As a pilot who commuted for 25 years, a pilot who works for my airline going HOME has super top priority for my jumpseat.

This. I’ve never heard of going to work as a priority.... unless you’re just a selfish SOB.

In the world of commuters, a pilot going to work should always have access to the jumpseat over a person going home. End of story.
Lol, are you serious right now? That’s not how jumpseat priority works, bud. If you want priority, jump on your own metal or buy a ticket. Where you’re going has ZERO consideration when determining who gets the JS.

Tough luck, schmuck. Pull up your big boy pants and move on.

The problem with this is if its a company non-rev its a fellow COWORKER as opposed to an off line pilot. I would certainly take the jump in order to get a revenue standby (i.e. CUSTOMER) or a Company non-rev aboard prior to J.S. Ragman the off line pilot.

The airline gossip factory works 24/7/365 and you'll get a reputation well beyond your crewroom.
