What does United have in their contract that says if mainline flights are reduced then so are regional flights? Again, serious question.

they have the april schedules on the website, you can go look at them and see the change between March and April.

I was curious, so I looked. We lost 1245 hours of UA flying March to April. 5.67% decrease. That doesn't seem like a ton on the face, but a reduction nonetheless.

Compared to 2019, we gained a marginal amount of UA flying March to April, but only a couple hundred hours. What isn't accounted for is the current Express shuffling going on at United, so not sure how that plays into 2020.

There are block hour ratio protections between percentage of RJ and mainline narrow body hours in UAL’s contract. I’m sure you can look up the specifics if you want but the gist is that it is measured on a 12 month rolling basis and there is a get out free clause for circumstances beyond the companies control.

Thank you for the info. I don’t know the contract whatsoever, but I would think UA management would try to use the clause to circumvent the ratio since the the virus is beyond their control.

Dumb question incoming, but what does this mean for us as pilots? I’d imagine bases like Chicago, Houston, and Newark where the flying is primarily UA will hurt the most? Probably a lot more pilots on reserve, lower credit pairings, less efficient pairings, etc. I’ve been on the bubble with having a line and sitting reserve with barely getting a like the past 2 months. Better start preparing for reserve...

Its in our scope section and it’s a ratio.

is it bad math to generalize that if UA is reducing its domestic flying by 10%, all UA contractors will see around 10% reduction in their UA flying?

Or UA is over-reacting and doing this for nothing worthy are very proactive and DL and AA will follow soon.
