I created the non-rated ALO specialty during my last tour at the Pentagon. This is a good opportunity for someone who likes weapons, tactics, and making a direct impact on national defense. I’m sure not much has changed since I’ve left... But if anyone has specific questions I’ll try my best to answer via private message.

Would you be fine with someone 10 years younger than you yelling down your throat making you pose in the front leaning rest position for 45 minutes just because he is having a bad day? This is where it has been found that older people have the most issues and why they will usually only do the age waiver if they are desperate for applicants.
The age requirements for initial military training have always been to ensure that at least some operators will still be medically and physically fit to serve as operational leaders 15-25 years down the road. They don't need everyone to have that kind of shelf life but they do need a certain percentage to have a pool of leaders to choose from. The age limit depends on specialty, aviation is low because so many medical glitches can ground you. SOF is low because your body is going to get beat to crap (waivers can be granted for exceptional physical specimens). Low physical impact specialties like logs, medical they might (and have) let folks join as late as age 42. That's federal law and (like civil service) ensures the member can serve 20 years without hitting the statutory age limit.

True enough.

Navy and USMC have similar jobs, active and reserve, although most of the officers came from specific active-duty source MOSs and do 1-2 tours, not a career.

Army also has dedicated MOS for this IIRC.

It depends what you're looking for, and your timeline but i doubt you're going to be suffering too badly in the ANG.
"meh" should never be something somebody says when considering a military commitment.
