I really don't want to commute, so I guess Skywest would be my next choice but the your pilot contract and Houston was what put it at the top of my list. But commuting indefinitely is not an option for me. Just curious if you guys have heard from the company if closing Houston is temporary or a permanent thing. I also saw Envoy is opening a 175 base in MIA, is that the writing on the wall that MIA will close too? I'm nervous about joining a regional that is closing bases. Thanks.
I don't think you should be nervous about joining a regional merely due to the fact you will not be getting hired on by one anytime soon. Go to any regional thread and with the exception of Commutair everyone is furloughing. There's tons on the street already from Compass, TSA, Expressjet and more furloughs coming from even the majors starting October 1. Regionals closing a base happens. Everything is a gamble. Best of luck.

If joining a Regional that closes bases is a concern for you I don't think you'll find a Regional out there then that is right for you. Regionals opening and closing bases is a regular thing, pandemic or not.

The kid asked a question. You don't have to make him feel worse about it.

Your safest bet is probably Skywest. Good luck. Hopefully your CFI gig is solid, you might be there for the better part of the next year or two.

Not sure what I said that wasn't true or would make feel somebody bad. But again, if it did hurt his/her feelings perhaps they should look for a different career.

I don’t think any of this is inappropriate or piling on. Regional hiring is paused for the indefinite future and whatever exceptions exist there are 10 guys with 121 time and probably a type rating ready to apply

And his question was answered.... its the harsh reality of the airline industry. Bases open and close especially at regionals. That is a reason why you should never move in base or pick a regional solely on basing. What are people supposed to do? Lie to him and make him think everything is grand in the aviation industry right now? Lie that there aren't already thousands of type rated atps on the streets and more coming October 1? Answering his question with the reality of whats happening isn't making him feel worse about it and if his feelings are hurt by reality this is the wrong industry for them.

No participation trophies in real life. Thats a fact.

Envoy leaving NY will create a vacuum that will draw in RJETs MIA and ORD AA 175s. Look for a LGA/JFK co-base.

Bingo. Bedford said it himself, his vision for Republic is to be a smaller, niche regional in the northeast market. Wouldn’t be surprised to see ORD close soon after MIA.
