The others have been answered, but I'll give my thoughts on this one.

Favorite

-Far and away the people. We have a great bunch of guys and gals throughout the company, and they almost always make coming to work fun and easy.
-The contract. Don't get me wrong, we are due a new one, and there are some glaring issues that need to be addressed (see below), but compared to most of our regional peers, we have it really good.
-The plane. This one has nothing to do with underwing engine time or anything else egotistical. It's an easy, modern plane to fly. I came to Republic with nothing but piston time, and the largest plane I'd flown was a Baron. I felt our training (also a positive) adequately prepared me to be a line pilot, and the plane does so many things to make your life easier, especially as you get used to it. The only more abstract thing the plane has going for it is because of its size, its mission is different from other regional jets. We spend lots of time flying to secondary cities (major, metropolitan areas) as opposed to tertiary, small destinations. For some, this might mean more fun on overnights, but that's a personal preference.

Least Favorite

-Commuter Rules/Culture. Obviously it doesn't apply if you live in base, but this airline is not set up for commuters. The outstation base model means it's harder to get to base (more two leg commutes), and the associated flying at those bases means early starts and late finishes, which aren't commutable. Our commuter rules in the contract don't really do much in the way of offsetting this, except to give you 4 instances in a rolling 12 month period to avoid an occurrence (disciplinary action, 8 can get you fired).
-Current Scheduling Environment. We are being abused by scheduling right now while we're short-staffed. I suspect this isn't unique to us, but it's still unfortunate. Holding a line means nothing, because they'll reassign you without mercy. I've been reassigned out of two overnights at home this year alone. Can be very demoralizing.
-Management. This needs some explanation, because I don't think it's especially unique to Republic. I'll also say that I think we have very good, savvy, competent businesspeople in charge at Republic. They are good at what they do. But like with any corporation (and I've worked at some that are 15 times as large as Republic), you don't matter as an individual. You are a number, and nobody will do anything for you just because it's the good, decent thing to do. The exception to this would be our Chief Pilot. If you come to her with a real need, she will work with you, individually. She's a real asset and we're lucky to have her. But just accept that you can and will be abused to the extent the contract allows, and they'll try to go beyond the contract, intentionally or otherwise, which means a thorough knowledge of our contract is to your benefit.

I'll close by saying I don't think many of the negatives to Republic are unique to them, and I'm virtually certain most anyone else at any company would have similar things to say. But it is important to be aware of, especially if it's a first job in a corporate environment. It can be shocking to people if they're not aware of it.

Overall, it could genuinely be (and is) a lot worse at lots of other places.

To piggy back on a ques that was asked before to see if it’s been updated- how far out are class dates if you already have the flight time? Still about two months out?

And lastly, what your favorite/ least favorite part about republic?

I interviewed 21SEP and was given a CJO 28SEP for a 14DEC class date.

Even on the flight in for the interview, the polite, professional, "family" atmosphere with the aircrews was apparent (or maybe SDF crews are that way, but I doubt it).

Thanks Web, Longhorn and Noworries for taking the time to reply. I seriously appreciate it. I’ve been a bit anxious about the interview even though it’s two weeks out, but info like this def puts my mind at ease.

Looking fwd to the interview and till then over been going over airline interviews to help prep for my interview. Let’s hope that will be worth it.

The hiring team both pilots and HR make you feel super comfortable and will answer any questions you have. Be yourself study the gouge and you will be just fine. One of the instructors dropped by the holding room while we waited and told us they will take every (good) candidate they can get.

Just out of curiosity, did you chose a december class date? They told me they would call when filling up for December classes.

Give them a call now. I was given choices for December and January. Went with January to give myself some room to build more time in case I need it.

Take the earliest date you can. You can always extend it out. But if you choose a later class date you can't always just move up to an earlier one.

You can extend it out once, but you can move it up as many times as you want. God forbid I have to extend once and it’s a month later lol

I see your point, but that kinda sucks for people like me who have the time, want the earliest class date and would like to factor in giving the current employer a min of 2 weeks of notice.

It’s is what it is, I guess..
