Republic Q-400?

Can someone from Rjet answer a few questions?

1) Are they still having trouble filling the Q400 class's? I heard of a class that started Nov. 4th, just curious how many in that class?

2) Rjet flies codeshare with just about every Major, why if on the Q400 for United that you only get pervilages to fly on United?
My friend at Mesa mentioned he gets both United and US Airways!

3) Do you get buddy pass's on United working for Rjet?

THX for any info!

I believe that you receive reciprocal benefits on the metal you were hired to fly for. Since the Q only flies for UAL then it is acceptable that you only receive benefits on UAL. Same with Republic I believe they are US and Shuttle is UAL and DAL. I am not sure about the AA side.
Mesa is US and I thought only a few were UAL, I think only a handful of 700's still fly on that side.
Anyway for what its worth just jump-seat. Non-Reving with family and friends these days is a NIGHTMARE!

Republic Q-400?

Their class room was right next to ours. I think they had 8 or 10 people but that is just a guess.

Suffice to say, if you want the Q, make it clear during your interview.....you will have no problem getting it.

Good luck!

Why would you want the Q? You'd be at the bottom of the FOs and on reserve for the next 3-5 years (basically until you can upgrade to Captain). If you get on the Republic 170 you'd be in the front of a 40+ airplane growth and be a senior FO on the plane for the next 3-5 years. The QOL difference between reserve and line holder at RAH is immense. I know FOs that bypass upgrade until they can hold a line as CA before taking the upgrade just to avoid the horrible reserve here... Do as you wish...

I live close to EWR and reserve is not to bad if they don't call you much, which does anyone know if you get called off reserve a bunch?

I have a friend that's a republic EWR based Q400 FO. He's been at republic for about six months and hates it. He told me the company is terrible and he's looking to make a lateral move. It his words, the Q400 training was a sh*t show and half the class made it through. If you really want EWR, I would recommend applying to Expressjet.

they do. reserve is horrible at rah-you fly more than a lineholder without any QOL or sked.

I think the Q is mostly staffed. If you get it you will probably be PIT based. Even though PIT is an Airways and United domicile you will only get United benefits. They are horrible. (PIT flight attendants get US airways and United privileges) You get charged 20 dollars per leg even if you are going to work. There are no buddy passes.

Because there is an FO seat lock, the Q FO's will be the last to upgrade since it's a new aircraft. I think the first Q FO was hired in June 2012 and the company is still upgrading 2007 hires. That means you will be stuck on reserve for a long time because there will be little movement on the Q FO side.

That being said, if you live near EWR and you don't mind being on reserve then there is nothing better than living base.

It is a fun plane to fly. I like it better than the CRJ and Saab I used to fly for Pinnacle/Endeavor/Mesaba. The training is difficult though.

good luck!

Dude you clearly haven't done your homework. RAH reserve sucks. You'll be used very single day. You will fly more hours than a line holder. When I was on reserve the least I credited was 88 hours. It was terrible. You should try to get LGA on the Chautauqua or Shuttle side...at least there you'll see movement and hold a line one day. LGA is junior on both certificates.

If you take the Q you will be PIT based for years and you'll be commuting to reserve.

I would agree with this. I sat reserve for two weeks in PIT and it was horrible. 3am-3pm. 11 days off. There are no crash pads so you will shell out 50 bucks a night for a hotel unless you move there. If you are lucky you can split with another pilot.

There are plenty of crash pads near LGA that are within walking distance. The one I had at Mesaba was a 5 minute walk and was 200 a month.

Pat, I know that it seems like this might be piling on, but if you meet ExpressJet's mins, you should seriously consider giving them a try first.

RJET recruiting paints a happy picture, but this company does everything they can to keep you unhappy. They want to keep their crew list's longevity as short-term as possible in order to keep their costs low. The disrespect demonstrated by the CEO/COO toward crew members has filtered down through the various levels of management and support departments such that you can detect it in everything from the emails you receive from crew pay when attempting to correct your screwed-up paycheck (there will be at least a couple) to the tone of voice when dealing with MX control to the crappy hotels they put us in.

....and then they insult our intelligence by attempting to deflect blame for our unhappiness as the result of their decisions on the union. Unfortunately, some have fallen for this tactic.

To RJET management, the needs and morale of crew members are dead last on the corporate priority last...right behind safety.

Not to sound like I'm repeating myself.

Not to sound like I'm repeating myself.

Anyway, the Q400 is an unreliable aircraft, especially as a new airframe to the company. MX issues = lots of cancelations. Lots of cancelations at a company that doesn't offer cancelation pay = less $$$'s in your already pathetic paycheck.

An airline that doesn't offer cancelation credit will never see my resume, regardless of where the engines are mounted!
