New guy Beretta01 plans on going to Republic

New user Beretta01 needs the forums help. He hasn't read a lick about Republic but is planning on going. Help this guy out for his own good.

I've already started by advising him to do a search for cancellation pay.

God damn, baptism by fire, eh!?

Lol, figured coming to the forums might have been a mistake....

I'll bite.

Instead of listing the reasons you shouldn't go there.... Let's do this:

What is it that Republic offers that makes you want to work there?

While some of the responses that come in may sound stupid, I'm confident enough information will be presented to change your mind.

- parking airplanes
- have not been able to hammer out a new contract since becoming amendable 8 years ago
- 8 year upgrades, will increase
- no flows
- training contract, they will sue you if you leave in the first 24 months
- lower priority travel benefits then wholly owneds
- bases close as quickly as they open

lets give the guy a chance to explain himself before people hammer away, there must be a reason he wants to be there

Here is a bunch of guys reasons for leaving Republic
Republic's 50 UAX E175s are going to Shuttle America | Jetcareers

I'll be brutally honest: didn't do any prior 121 research....they were calling continuously, and I finally bit to fly up for an interview. Cash flow won't be an issue(but still stings a little knowing the difference from previous job); I've spent a few years saving heavily. The 175(plus the 190 type) looks to be an incredible plane...I know it's a cheesy reason but hey. No training contract. Bonus. Ability to live wherever I like and commute to work was a BIG one.

I knew the regionals would suck, so I figured stop pouting and just get on with one. I know RAH is very short staffed, so I figured the possibility of advancing in seniority might be a possibility as people are starting to get hired on by the majors. They also are paying for ATP-CTP and ATP written.

The only true way to inform yourself of the state of the regionals is by talking directly with pilots from various regionals. Yes, there can be some good info on these forums but you also need to be very cautious.

EVERY regional you can theoretically live wherever you want and commute if that's what you choose. But guess what, commuting BLOWS. Avoid it if you can but don't let that be the #1 reason to pick a regional. Don't pick a regional because they fly a freakin E175 (if you do, Compass is probably your best choice at this point). I fly the plane and it makes you lazy as ****.

Anyways I could chime in a lot more about this but I try to avoid these types of conversations on APC. Just do your research carefully, talk to actual regional line pilots (call your buddys, have them call their buddys, etc). Don't take the first regional that calls you back, they pretty much all are hard up for pilots at this point. Thats all I got, good luck
