Default Delta sues Republic

Delta sues Republic Airways over flights lost to pilot dispute | 2015-10-06 | Indianapolis Business Journal | IBJ.com

Tip of the iceberg.

This very well may be good strategy by Delta as well, the next time Republic has to cancel flights due to lack of crew (every singe day), my guess is RAH will have to seriously consider which flights to cancel (if possible).

Also, the $1 million in damages sought be Delta may be an opening for settlement whereby RAH buys itself out of the Delta flying altogether. Republic will have to shrink in the face of the shortage and they are probably considering it may be best to serve American and United well as opposed to all three of them poorly. Also, it could be an opening for bankruptcy sooner rather than later should United and American decide to follow suit.

Further, back to back days of pilot death in the cockpit and pilot unconsciousness doesn't bode well for RAH's desire to staff cockpits with 250 hour FOs, the relief RAH has been seeking. I just don't see the FAA changing their mind on this at this time, nor do I see Congress overriding the FAA on the hour requirement either. For a variety of reasons, the status quo will remain.

Republic continues to lead the pack in daily cancellations.

Agreed, you make good points. Delta and Rah will settle...Rah will buy itself out of the Delta contract...Rah pilots will vote IN the most recent TA...American and United threaten to sue just like Delta...Rah declares bankruptcy due to the cost of the new pilot contract...Rah-American-United renegotiate their CPA ... Rah pilots get a concessionary contract shoved down their throats by a judge.
Rah comes out the other end as the lowest cost regional, lean and mean.

But then they're right back where they started with their pilot recruitment problem.

Yes I agree. Which is why I maintain there are simply no good options for RAH and its pilots. The demise of regional airlines in general is what's in all of our best interests. Sucks obviously if you are the one living through it, but there simply is no path forward for regionals. Wholly owneds will be the last standing.

I suspect Republic will be wholly owned soon enough. The legacies will not give up their money train (regionals), so whoy owns will become more common. You will see a lean republic (industry average), with a flow thru to United.

Don't think united wants a wholly owned or flow, but whatever.

United has said publicly many times that it is not interested in any flow agreements
