I had not considered negative learning, good point. I guess the driving factor in my class prep quest is to not repeat my last experience. I interviewed for my last job, was in class less than a week later with no time to prep. I had a constant feeling of being behind the learning curve for the entire time. It ended well, I scored high on systems and passed the sim ride, but I did not enjoy that feeling of uncertainty that led up to success.
I think what would have helped me last time is something a bit more than a 2 page list of numbers to memorize before class. My new company, Republic, did send me a fair amount of things to read about in their study guide, but with out a Operating Manual to go in-depth, its really just a bunch of rote memorization.

Just repeat after me, "______ operates in accordance with system logic". If you've been flying turboprops or doing single pilot IFR you won't have any problems with the flying portion. Systems are pretty easy, they don't make you build the airplane like on the 145. Lot's of computer based training for systems and FMS and plenty of resources available to study on your downtime. Get your class mates numbers, go get a case of beer, take over a conference room and quiz each other, do some chair flying, etc and dont be afraid to ask your captains in class for help.
Take TT's advice, go grab a beer and relax!

So a new guy is excited and motivated to be prepared for training and y'all jump his sh1t. Good grief. I guess that's what you get for being young and excited about your new job. Give the guy a break. Jeesh.

Ill go out on a limb here and give you the benefit of the doubt that you aren't trolling. If that's the case, power down the flight sim, step away from the PC and step towards the fridge. Grab a beer and relax. You will learn everything you need to learn in indoc, systems and the sim. If you try and teach yourself how to fly you will have a lot of un-learning to do by the time you get to FlightSafety. It can be tempting to try and get a leg up, but you will never get enough info to get a serious head start. Just my 2 cents.
Again. This ^^^^^^^^
Pay attention to this. Network and study with classmates once you get there. You will be fine. In the meantime, enjoy life a little; you sure won't once you start training!!

Yeah this sub forum should be relabeled the tool forum or the crybaby forum. 99% of the whiners here don't have a clue how hard and soul sucking a real job is. Being a regional 121 pilot is an easy gig. And everyone doing it now is making substantially more money in much nicer equipment for far less time than the regional pilots in the not too distant past. Not to mention that once they move to the left seat they'll be doing better than the vast majority of their college classmates if they even graduated from college. On topic, the training, like any airline is easy. Pay attention, read, work hard at flows and profiles, have a good attitude and you'll do just fine.

So I was just recently hired at RAH. I currently fly 135 in hawaii, but my home is in FLL. I applied to republic for their new contract and eventually to be based in MIA. I am a little concerned about their future so looking for advice on if i should stick with them or not.
I know about Silver, flown them many times and I have a couple buddies that fly there. But I kinda want to get out of turboprops for a while.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Before you go to Silver, make sure you get a bank loan to afford cost of living

RAH is real good at getting kids from ERAU with shiny jet syndrome to sign on. Show up on campus with a brand new jet, next thing you know all the g1000-reliant kids are changing their instagram bios to "future e170 FO". Pretty hilarious actually.
If you want to make a lifelong career as a regional jet captain, stick with republic.

I think the large amounts of captains leaving here to go to United, Delta, FedEx, UPS not to mention Spirit and JetBlue would disagree with that assessment.
