KCHS is Charleston, SC.

KCRW is Charleston, WV.

Charleston, WV AKA - Charlie West (CRW) is most definitely not Charleston, SC (CHS).

Was the localizer out? Either way the loc or vor a might not be much help if it was 500 ovc.

Airport manager said this crew was from CRW, so they were familiar with the airport. Not sure now often that VOR-A approach is used.

There is a LOC for 05:

Rwy 05 ILS/DME I-HCV 110.3 MHz Chan 040X
LOCALIZER OFFSET ANGLE 001 DEG 26 MIN

NOTAMS for RWY 05:

CRW 08/044 CRW RWY 5 THR DISPLACED 578FT. DECLARED DISTANCES: TORA 6802FT TODA 6802FT ASDA 6302FT LDA 5724FT. 1508111752-1

!CRW 07/075 CRW RWY 5 VASI OUT OF SERVICE 1507271200-1707272000

!CRW 07/074 CRW RWY 5 RWY END ID LGT OUT OF SERVICE
1507271200-1707272000

NTSB says they have security video of the approach/accident.

Condolences to the families and friends of the crew from https://www.aircar.com
