Default Air France A380 Shreds Engine; Diverts Gander

Short video down the page. Favorite comment: "possible bird strike."

Yeah....in the Atlantic Tracks....

BREAKING: Air France A380 Lands Safely After Engine Blows to Pieces Over Atlantic ? Avgeekery.com ? News and stories by Aviation Professionals

At first glance, makes me wonder if it is similar to the Qantas incident in 2010....and if it might lead to a fleet-wide airworthiness directive.

Looks like the entire fan section came off, similar to the SWA incident in Pensacola, last year.

The geese are migrating this time year, that's what caused it. Sure, it did.

The A380 will go down as one of the biggest flops in civil aviation history, unless you are Emirates.

It was about euro size-complex insecurity, not money.

Odds are pretty high that the 74 will still be flying long after the last carbon cataclysm has been chopped into packing peanuts at the recycling center.

But the french will likely retain size bragging rights for a very long time.

Or unless you own a laundromat in the Goose Bay terminal.

Bravo zulu to the crew, though. Credit where credit is due.

The Aussies like to call it "The Flying Vagoyna"..........not much to look at from the outside, but quite nice once you're inside.
