I rode on Penair Saab 2000's in my past, but not any more. I might as well tell this story here and now. October 31, 2018, I was a passenger on a Penair Saab 2000 flying from ANC to CDB, Cold Bay, AK. The captain taxied out with thick frost on the wings. As soon as the captain said, "Flight attendant, take your seat for departure" I immediately rang the call button from seat 9A, demanding we get deiced. I said repeatedly "We cannot take off with ice on the wings." I had to shout because the airplane is loud, even with the inverse-wave sound broadcast throughout the cabin. We taxied back to the ramp, but not after I had already texted 6 people pictures of the icy wing, as my insurance in case of arrest. Captain invited me to step off the plane with him, which I did. He asked why I was yelling at his flight attendant. I said, "Because it's illegal to take off with ice on the wings." He said, "I didn't see any ice on the wings." I said, "There has been ice on the wings since before I got on the plane." He said, "Where is this ice?" I scraped some off the wing onto my fingertips. "Here is the ice. You either de-ice this plane, or I will call FSDO. I have them on my speed-dial on my phone to call right now." I made him de-ice the plane. I also asked his permission to re-enter the aircraft. We de-iced then departed. It is not normal for a passenger to tell a captain to obey FAR 121.629 My fear now is that my coworkers who travel to Cold Bay, AK and Dillingham, AK who use Penair Saab 2000's on a regular basis will have to continue to do so.
What a ********ng tool......

Read my post again. My flight on 10/31/2018 was probably captained by someone else. I remember his first name, but will not post it here. I remember my return flight a week later had the same pilot who WAS captain for the 10/31 outbound flight, but he was flying as FO with a very much older, senior looking captain on the return flight.

A "tool to keep the flight safe"
So, your response as a passenger on an airline is to go ahead and let a flight take off with ice on the wings with no complaining and no worries and hope you don't end up as fish food in the freezing water at runway's end, like in Anchorage? Seriously? You think that I wanted to make a scene for no good reason? Dude, I have a wife and 4 kids. I had FSDO on speed dial because I called them a week before asking about my own possible aviation start-up company. I simply wanted to live through that take-off. The captain was risking all 26 of our lives by not de-icing. This is serious. I certainly hope you de-ice before takeoff.

On i0/31/2018 the PIC on MY Penair flight refused to de-ice my airplane until my intervention and then he agreed to do so. If he did not, I would have deplaned and taken my bags and a refund. So, when you ride as a passenger commercially, would you just accept the fact your plane is taking off with ice on the the wings, or would you do something to stop it? Or do you consider it being a "drama llama" just wanting to stay alive by surviving a takeoff on an icy plane. I certainly hope that if you are a commercial pilot, you de-ice every single time before takeoff. I don't need to know the particular PIC of the accident flight. I am just saying the Penair operation was going to allow my flight on 10/31/2018 to depart without de-icing. I am pointing out a fact from history. Maybe you don't comprehend the seriousness of ice on the wings? I don't know.
