Sad to see.

How was this formation related, if anyone knows? Aborted TO or what? I used to be in wing safety and I’ve seen my share of mishaps but upside down alongside the runway is a new one.

Don’t know, but two planes crashing on the runway would be an indication.

The other plane was off the runway edge, and the flaps appeared to be full down.

Heard rumor mill it was during a formation landing.
Is that part of the syllabus?

Vance Wing CC said landing in part of press conference he gave that was shown on NBC Nightly News.

Reservist IP and SP were killed. Thoughts and prayers to 340th FTG.

Wind was basically down the runway +/- 10 degrees at 15 ish with some gusts.

USMC form landings are optional to an unsatisfactory level in T-6s, but are required as part of the 38 syllabus as a dual only maneuver. I always tried to get students 1 or 2 in T-6s, if I thought they might go 38s or as a further confidence booster if they were just really good.

Here’s the latest as of 5pm CST from KOCO channel 5 in OKC

Thanks Tweetdrvr - I figured they would be part of the syllabus but didn't know for sure. I've not seen a formation landing go bad in my time so it will be interesting to see the chain that led to this terrible event.

Fair winds and following seas Airmen.

It was a Formation landing. Rumor is they touched wings after touchdown.

That alone would not cause this, but the response to it might.

Brings back some sad memories for me from 11 years ago. Nickels on the grass, gents, and clear skies. Fly 270 unrestricted.

I knew that IP when he was a stud at DLF in 2000. Great dude. He took our T6 students in the A10 sim on a drill weekend one Sunday a.m. when we were on cross country a few years later. 😥

Just heard the Reservist IP was very close to one of my former co-workers.
