Kallita RTO 737 [Over-Run]

Kalitta 737 freighter involved in Rochester runway incident

By Jon Hemmerdinger5 June 2020
A Boeing 737-400 Special Freighter operated by Kalitta Charters II ran off a Rochester, New York runway following a rejected take-off on 5 June, coming to stop on grass beside the runway.

None of the three people aboard the aircraft were injured in the incident, which occurred at about 09:55 local time, according to the National Transportation Safety Board, which is assessing the incident.

The jet was taking off from Rochester for a flight to Hartford Bradley International airport. Following the rejected take-off, the 737 came to a stop on the left side of Rochester’s Runway 22, the NTSB says.

The Kalitta Charters II Boeing 737-400 Special Freighter ran off the runway at Greater Rochester International airport in New York on 5 June 2020.

Due to the aircraft’s location, the Greater Rochester International airport closed both its prime runways – 10-28 and 04-22. The airport has since reopened one runway.

Few details are known about the cause of the incident, which involved a 28-year-old 737 (registration N733CK) painted in the colours of express package delivery company DHL.

However, the Rochester Airport Firefighters union tweeted, “According to scanner audio, aircraft experienced a mechanical issue before veering off the runway”.

A Boeing 737-400 Special Freighter operated by Kalitta Charters II came to rest on grass prior to takeoff at Greater Rochester International airport in New York on 5 June 2020.

The jet had arrived at Rochester at 08:35 that morning from Cincinnati, according to Flightaware.com.

Neither Kalitta Charters II or the Federal Aviation Administration responded to requests for more information.

Boeing delivered the 737-400 new as a passenger aircraft to British Airways in 1992. In 2017, Kalitta acquired the jet and converted it to the freighter configuration.

Also, where do you get "Belly UP"? From the pictures it appears that all gear are down and locked and that very little if any damage was done to the aircraft. Do you have an axe to grind with Charters II?

Belly Up is a little dramatic dont you think? i see three gear down and locked and the engines dont appear to be compromised. I see the fake news has made it to APC

ROBsINtheHOOD 06-06-2020 01:38 AM

..... couldn’t spell the name of the airline correctly , described the incident using false / misleading words in the title of the post , no wonder people are frustrated when uninformed , incompetent and inexperienced posters post here. A perfect example of fake news. James2016 you should apologize.

skypine27 06-06-2020 03:30 AM

Bingo. This was one of the stupidest posts I’ve seen here in a while (unless OP is 14 and doesn’t know much about airplanes, in which case it’s cool)

sailingfun 06-06-2020 04:01 AM

God I hope no one can is actually letting the OP fly airplanes!

Hope the first thing those guys did was to call the union hotline to get their attorneys involved.

The 737 guys voted out the union about 2 months ago.

Will James be able to do a mea culpa to get back in the good graces of APC Forums when he regains his senses?

Maybe now somebody will understand the importance of all of the pilots under the same tent. This is exactly what your union dues pay pay for.

Nobody cares about a couple pilots at K2. Just don't wish too hard for something, you might get it. Your union protects you, the pilot, should anything occur that might jeopardize your employment. This is exactly why you pay union dues. There is something fundamentally wrong with this sort of attitude.

You say you dont care but here you are! You appear to be an Atlas 767 pilot by your past K4 and K2 jabs. You sound very uninformed on how things work during an incident and how a union functions, and by being a Atlas 767 driver, makes It even more asinine for you to be posting post-incident-pre-investigation garbage. Have you even considered it may not have been their fault? And if it was pilot error, a union lawyer can save a guys job 100 percent? Just admit its a political post meant to take a union jab at the K2 pilot group, I think we can all see that and accept your trolling for what it is. SMH maybe you should do a lil research next time but in true APC troll fashion, I am sure you won’t. What you should be thankful for is the COVID-19 god filling your company’s coffers with pilots. No true aviator picks an incident or accident to stand on the bully pulpit to say “I TOLD YOU SO!! a UNION could have saved you!!” Good day sir or ma’am. Happily retired if this is the type of aviator that is out there today!!!! An interesting read, not assuming of course!

I'm an Atlas captain. We hope the guys at K2 are alright. I haven't heard anyone saying anything snarky in real life about this event.
