Default MD87 down at Houston Executive, only 1 injury

https://www.cnn.com/2021/10/19/us/te...ash/index.html

Didn't gain altitude on takeoff. 21 pax and crew. Jet was destroyed but only 1 minor injury, looks like everyone got off prior to the fire getting out of control. News report said based on tail # it's a MD-87 but all you can see is the T-tail.

Update: It was chartered to go to BOS for Game 4 of the American League Championship Series.

It appears to have stayed on the ground the whole TO run through the fence and into the field. I don't see the buckets out in the videos being shown.

Glad everyone got out safely.

I wonder why someone would say everyone self extricated. Why not just tell the public everyone got out safely, with no assistance required by emergency personnel. Sounds like someone wanted to sound more sophisticated than necessary.

True, but one way of looking at it is there’s ARFF at the airport, local volunteers. No assistance available.

Dan Gryder has many thousands of hours in the DC and MD's and he says it was a compressor stall early in the takeoff roll and the crew did not abort. They did get airborne but hit powerlines and a tree which took the gear off prior to ground impact and that's why everyone walked away. The thumbnail for this video shows the compressor stall he says. You can definitely see significant white smoke coming out of the engine.

Well, there we go. "Dan Gryder" says so. Saves a whole lot of investigating and technical expertise, evidence, examination, testimony, expense. No need to wait for an NTSB report.

Dan Gryder said so. Excellent.

This guy is turning into the Nancy Grace of Aviation. Let’s castigate before all the fact are in… and oh yes… not apologize for destroying the reputation of the airman before all the facts are in. Take note Mr. Gryder…. Thousands of hours of DC/MD time does not translate, equate, nor correlates to system/aircraft knowledge.

Thats an old plane with old engines.
I really wouldn’t be surprised to see a puff of smoke when they go T/O power.
