Idk, I think it could be real difficult to judge distance/closure in this situation?

The more I think about it, the more it makes sense the pilots couldn’t have known about the strike. What professional crew wouldn’t report possibly FOD’ing out a runaway? Or even if you weren’t sure you heard something hit but had a sense you might of…you’d report that to ATC and request a message be sent to airfield management for confirmation.

Wrt the video – those passengers were sitting towards the back of the plane…how did it actually sound up in the cockpit?

The CVR will tell story. Once clear of the threat, the pilots would have detailed conversation. And no doubt the FAs will be part of the investigation (what exactly, if anything, did they tell the pilots?).

I’m going to hang it out there and say the crew might have been dealt unsuited deuce seven and did the best they could.

Maybe. But it appears the tail hit so hard it knocked the pax around. Maybe not as noticeable up front.
