Default AN-225 World's Largest Plane Victim of War

https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/a...ntl/index.html

The 6 engine AN-225 was stranded in Ukraine with an engine under repair when the war started, it just became a casualty. The Ukraine government said they'll rebuild it at a cost of $3B which they'll bill Russia for.

Default AN-225 disabled ("destroyed")

The AN-225 (world's largest aircraft) is reportedly "destroyed" at Hostomel, Ukraine. Russian troops are reported in control of Hostomel, and confirmation isn't available beyond a statement that the aircraft has been "destroyed," but is "rebuildable."

If that happens, of course, it won't be the Russians "rebuilding" it. They can barely maintain what they do fly, let alone putting a one-off aircraft back in the air.

Why would Russians rebuild an Ukrainian owned and operated airframe?

Ukraine is about to become a russian state, again. The Ukranians aren't likely to rebuild it, given that Antanov claimed when they shut the second build down in 2009, that it would require an additional 300 million. The russians can barely maintain what they do have; russian gear always flies on the ragged edge of broke. The Ukranians are posturing, saying that the Russians will have to pay for this damage, now they're claiming it will be three billion.

The airplane burned up on the 24th, along with its storage facility.

It ain't coming back.

Ukraine suggestion that Russia will pay for the airplane is a bit like saying Mexico will pay for the wall. Not happening.

Lol, yeah that’s not happening. Russia is waging the Most embarrassing military campaign of the 21st century.

With weapons, aid, etc. pouring in from the West, Russia will not be taking Ukraine back into its fold. Perhaps we’ll see a long and bloody occupation but they’re not going to be successful (thank goodness).

Yup. I've seen two reports, unconfirmed still, that Russia has close to 4500 casualties. If true, that's quite a fact. 4500 troops, plus helos, the still unconfirmed 2x IL-76s, and however many vehicles. God Bless the Ukranians. Vlad didn't see this coming.

But now Vlad has sent in the muslim Chechens. You know, the ones he has been battling in the North Caucasus for years.

War and politics sure do make for strange bedfellows.

Or maybe he's trying to have the Ukrainians fix a problem for him....

The Chechens have already been wiped out.
