Stolen C90 in Tupelo, MS

Some guy stole a King Air 90 and is flying around Tupelo, MS.

Sounds like the perfect candidate for a shoot-down. On the other hand, it's only walmart. Worst-case: he does dozens of dollars worth of damage to some valuable Chinese copies of someone else's product.

Wow. Yeah shoot down might be the way to go but tough call... would need to ensure the location minimized risk to stuff on the ground.

A crazy dude is not as clear a case as obvious professional terrorists. Might be able to talk him down safely.

Also frankly a shootdown in CONUS, of anything, is not going to make the traveling public feel warm and fuzzy.

News is reporting that the pilot(?) is in custody.

From the news (cbs, cnn)

He was a refuel guy at Tupelo airport.
He had some flight instruction, but hadn't done a landing yet.
Over the radio, he made threats, but never carried them out.
When he was very low on fuel, he said that "this is the end."
A private pilot talked him down on the radio - he landed in a field a few miles from the airport.
He is in custody.

At least that is more than the guy who stole and crashed the Horizon plane could say.

Rich would have flowed to AS if he could have pulled off a crash landing.

Saw an update this morning with some info I hadn't heard about.
Cory Patterson had worked at the FBO for 10 years and has held a student pilot certificate since 2013.
He had an experienced pilot talking him down. I don't know if he could have made the airport or put it down in the field deliberately.
He is being held without bail and may face additional federal charges.
