It shouldn't be newsworthy, nor noteworthy, when a pilot makes a safety call.

The public doesn't know that.

It had passed the ETOPS process. Plenty of items are scheduled to be removed or replaced in x hours or are on 'watch' lists (TAC? Trend Analysis C__ (Condition?)??). It's happened before, flights have left, and never made the news.

For ETOPS, I might not be comfortable with "Ops check Sat, could not duplicate" regarding engine stability or fuel flow.

My shop has removed airplanes with mystery gremlins from over water ops.

MEL and TAC items cover ETOPS limitations. Mystery gremlins might be a judgement or MEL/TAC 'none ETOPS' trigger.

he provided way too much info… good call refusing the plane but his PA was a good example of what not to do.

They didn't need to know it this time. The captain turned it into a high school drama.

Sounds like an audition for a role i a soap oper.

I always say less said is more. Keep the announcement concise, precise and to the point without editorializing.
