Sarcasm alert: On a Boeing of course.

Well, that tears it. Next time I ride business class to Singapore, I'm wearing a helmet.

(Always a good idea if trying to get through Heathrow, anyway)

severe CAT? As in clear air turbulence? Didn’t sound like it was clear. Sounded like they flew right threw a severe thunderstorm.

Right you are, the article I originally read was behind a paywall so I linked the newsnation article instead which does say convective. Ooops (me and the pilots).

One dead...?

Well, yeah, but people die of heart attacks with and without convective turbulence. Not saying it isn't a tragedy - ask not for whom the bell tolls and all that - but trust the media to sensationalize this for maximum clicks...

Pre Monsoon Thrunderstorms are vicious to say the least.... especially over the Bay of Bengal. Shallow warm waters.

With every click down on the gain, your confidence increases one click up...

WX radar does take a bit of tinkering, depending on the radar. I've flow with pilots who also were heads down at cruise and flew through the top of a cell. Coming back from Narita to Anc saw UPS fly shack center through a cell. Then they decided to deviate, lol. Pacific flying takes a bit more to avoid the cells. Lots of rain and the storms aren't always as rough as a thunder bumper in the US but it will still upset your cart service at FL350.

Unless I'm on top with a full moon, the radar is always on at night.
