Default Elmendorf C-17 crashes in Air Show

Just heard ELM closed due to 'a C-17 crash closing the airport'. No details available.

It's always bad to hear about a crash, but one with locally based pilots allows the presence of the family of the crew witnessing the risks involved with flying aircraft.

Hopefully either a minor issue closing the runways temporarily, or, at least everyone (spectators or those on-board) was able to walk away from it.

I've been to the Arctic Thunder Air Show twice before. Ironically, I saw my first C-17 demo there. I was amazed at the short field takeoff to an immediate hard left turn away from the crowd. Never seen any airplane before takeoff and at the mid point of the runway be headed exactly 90 degrees to the runway heading.

It appears this did not occur during the Airshow. The Airshow was this weekend.

RIP.

Unsubstantiated report, 4 souls lost, Air Guard C17. It was practice, not the actual airshow, so probably no video.

Very sad to hear, thoughts and prayers go out to the crew and their family.

Mods,

Any chance this thread could be bumped or duplicated to the "Military" section.

I'm sure some of the mil guys would want to know this info and might not check this section regularly.

Thank you.

Cheers,
