Or just a quick EMP in the cabin that fries any PED left on...

I love how all these people think "oh well my little ole cellphone couldn't do anything bad." But if you ask these people what a cellphone does when it is next to their TV or radio ... and they'll all say "Oh yeah, the beeps ... beep beep beep di di di beep beep ... that can cause a plane crash?"

Approaching the hold short in a BE200 the radios started the beep song and dance routine. I asked my crew chief to tell the brass to turn off their phones.

My crew chief turned to the loop, pointed to the brass busy typing away on his CrackBerry, and asked that he talk to the brass about turning off his phone.

The loop told my crew chief to turn around and mind his own business and that the there was no way that the CrackBerry could cause any problems.

I stopped the plane on the taxiway and called ground and asked for clearance back to the ramp. Shortly thereafter the CrackBerries were turned off....

You can always RTG and boot them off. I did that once.

I always used to hear the old CRJ false cargo fire warning stories from the 90's and the correlation to cell phone usage when I was at my last company.

I've had strange caution lights come on and off before with no explanation, could be a coincidence, or maybe not.

We've all heard the buzzing in the headset though.... That link to cell phones is irrefutable.

Every electronic device, whether or not it is designed to transmit or receive signals, has an electromagnetic signature of some kind. I always get a kick out of those who don't want to turn off their Kindles or iPods at the gate because they think it couldn't possibly emit any type of signal. Better to be safe than sorry.
