Plus you don't get fatigue credit for the outbound leg of a CDO...

Lake Charles ATIS has always included a caution that warns about the other airport. If you've flown toward LCH from IAH at night, when you get close you'll see a really bright airport beacon with really nice airport lights that match everything you are expecting. That is the wrong airport. LCH has an airport beacon buried in other lighting and is difficult to see even when you've been there a thousand times.

Funny I asked another FO of ours if he heard about it the next day, said no but let me guess it was into Lake Charles. Apparently it Is really easy to mistake. Regardless it shouldnt have happened.

Saw a 172 land at Seymour Johnson AFB-wide runway for a little plane.
Pilot was escorted by all the blue lights the SP's could muster, especially since he was near the Alert pad... |
this almost happened to me single pilot in a King Air going into Key West civilian airport, when I got lined up at Key West Navy Base, and approach told me "yes I show you on final". I contacted Key West tower (5 miles away) who saw my landing lights and said, "in sight, cleared to land"
recognized it and broke off, but could have happened. just throwing that out there |
A lot of people on this forum could have made this same mistake.
If this event has happened 3 times then I think that is something to consider..... Good luck to the crew |
