Shhhhhh. We're already required to have our phones off. Don't tell the media...

I don't know how long you've been with Delta, but at regional carriers you're not going to get much in Des Moines, trying to get patched thru to MX with outsourced ground ops.

I sure made them do it when I was at 9E. My phone minutes were not for company use when that door was closed.

Just to set the record straight, we can use cellphones once we're off the gate for Operational reasons as long as the aircraft is stopped with the brake set (see FOM 3.2.13). I've done it numerous times to deal with MX or talk to Dispatch regarding sudden ground stops. It certainly beats waiting forever for ATL RDO to patch you through, that is if I can figure out which frequency to use in the first place.

Heard something else is behind this, but in any case, god forbid we should keep flying safer than driving...

The most important aspect of turning off your cell phone...because if you don't it will be out of juice when you land because it couldn't find a cell tower.

Default No more electronics??

Sooooo, does this mean I gotta ditch my Kindle and go back to paper books? Staring out the window is kinda tough on that 10 hour ANC-HKG leg.

Check out this article from USA TODAY:

FAA to pilots: Turn off devices
