Good for Finnair
Airline crash data group ranks world's safest airlines | Fox News
From the article:
From the article:
According to the report, Finnair is now the world’s safest airline, followed by Air New Zealand, Cathay Pacific and Emirates. None of the top nine ranked airlines had lost an aircraft or had a fatality during the 30-year period, but many had also not been active for the full 30 years. Not one North American carrier made the top 10 list, but none of them made the bottom 10 either.

Interesting that SkyWest made the list...I wonder if that's the US or the Aussie version?
If it's it's the US version, that's some interesting statistics...Skywest has never had a fatal crash which was actually our fault. The most notorious incident involved a tower controller forgetting that he had given the SKW metroliner position and hold instructions, and then subsequently landing a 737 on the metro...can't really blame SKW when they get landed on from behind after doing what they were told. The other fatal involved a mid-air that was blamed on the other aircraft.

Since "SkyWest" is listed as 51 out of 60 (in the bottom 10), I'm guessing that would actually be "Skywest", the lower-cased, Australian airline.

But it's spelled SkyWest. Entirely possible the journalist did not know that it's a US regional. Or it could be the guys down-under.

Also, there is the fine print which determines how they come up with the ranking.
* Based on our annual safety calculations which include all hull loss accidents and serious incidents in the last 30 years of operations in relation to the revenue passsenger kilometers (RPK) performed in the same time. We also took into account the international safety benchmarks such as the IOSA Audit and the USOAP country factor. Furthermore we included a time weightening factor which increases the effect of recent accidents and weakening the impact of accidents in the past. All calculation data ends after a period of 30 years.

Yep, here's the link to the report:

Although the tables are titled in German, the line next to SkyWest clearly states "USA".
