You think this was a practice run huh?
It would seem to take the mystery out of it if it were so.

Like my Mom used to say, "It's all good fun, until someone gets hurt!"

;^)

I'm sure the camera girl (or guy, screaming like a little girl) knew it was coming, how could she not?

Oh, and he was probably only going 150, not 200, so it wasn't that scary.

If you want to see scary, check out some of the low/fast passes by fighters on You Tube, much more of the Jimmy Doolittle type! Delta lost an F/O some years ago when he buzzed his family's reunion picknick...in an F16. He hit the family barn, on the second low pass.

"Hey Mom, Watch This!"

All good fun until...

Inverted ribbon cut by Will Curtis / Honda Dream Team - YouTube

This guy flew within a couple feet of a couple dozen people. The only difference was that he was inverted.

Craziest Low Pass Ever ! MUST SEE !! [French Mirage F1] - YouTube

If 200 was dangerous, what would this one be?

I'd say that the difference was (let's for the sake of discussion say that airshow was in the US); that the STUNT was designed, practiced, and approved with safety in mind and by the authorities who are also monitoring it real time.

The video clip in question does not appear to be a practice for an airshow stunt. If it were - the story would have already died on the vine.

Think of the difference in the airshow stunt of the airplane landing on a moving truck (Jelly Belly plane lands on moving car, with scanner audio part 2 - YouTube) and the same thing happening because some people got a crazy idea to try it out at the local airport on a Saturday morning.

As we are discussing - it seems that this stunt pilot was NOT operating within the rules and regulations.

Ridiculous. Some times you have to actually feel sorry for the Feds that have to deal with this stupid stuff.

This is being discussed on a home builder forum that I follow as well. Some over there claim to know more details or know the pilot. Several points that were brought up was that it was the pilots home airport where he maintains a aerobatic box with a ground level waiver and it was in effect at the time, and it was a practice routine for this years air show season, the airport manager was briefed before hand, and the camera was on a tripod so he was further away from the second person than it looked.
I wasn't there so don't shoot the messenger, but I for one, hope this is true and there was a method to the madness.
If it is a practice routine, then there probably wasn't much more danger to the people on the ground than pole holders for ribbon cuts.

The article I linked to said that the aerobatic waiver had expired in Nov '12. That would be pretty easy for the investigation to uncover. Also - if it were a sanctioned practice - then the FAA would have been able to verify that through its' own network or a simple call to the airport manager since the other forum says he knew about it ahead of time. The pilot's name has also been released. From the article I last cited:
Stunt pilot Jason Newburg advertises as a daredevil for hire...
Newburg's waiver to perform aerobatics expired in November, sources told ABC News.
I certainly hope it is one big misunderstanding!

As much as we like to think, pilots aren't exempt from stupidity
