Post China Southern Deice: A reply to Mr.sunborn

I was meant to reply Mr.sunburn’s post “China Southern so cheap they wont deice”, but it seems I don’t have the privileges to get access to the sub-forum. So I post it here
I’m a Chinese mainland pilot. I’ve been a frequent visitor of this great site like many of my colleagues. I deeply felt there has been some misunderstandings of Chinese mainland airlines. We are not the best, but we’ve been making progress throughout all these years. We are learning and we are working hard to make changes. As to the de ice part, I think many foreign pilots in China will have the same idea as I do. We are very conservative about this issue. There are many times our company insisted deice even we felt it’s not necessary at all. Why the flight crew failed to do that in NRT, I have no idea. But I overheard that they are grounded. The senior officials and fleet managers are really pised off for their incompetence. And Mr. sunburn’s post is on the front page of our monthly safety bulletin.

Thanks for the insight, it's good to hear that you folks think the way we do about de-ice. Sometimes we feel like we are being over-conservative too, but history has shown that ice effects are not very predictable.

Pictures are worth a thousand words. And YOUR pilots are unsafe at any speed.

1) Way to generalize, Dick

2) Name a crash caused by ice on a plane with leading edge devices

We're waiting . . .

Might be a little while contrails. Going by what is says under his name, Mr. Dick appears to be having a little time out.

.... Air Florida 90?
HSLD, I'd suggest it wasn't just the ice. All the holes in the cheese lined up for Palm 90.

The rescues from the water were unreal.

So what are you saying? We should all stop deicing if we have slats?

You wouldn't happen to be a Russian airbus pilot, would you?

Post Another update

Big thanks for all your comments.

I figure as a professional pilot; when you are on your duty, just try to stick to your textbook. Sometimes it may appear nonsensical, but it’s always safer.

Safety itself is a rather relative issue. Different people on different position might hold a totally different view. But we all seek truth from facts, don’t we?

And another update for Mr. sunburn, China Southern has just made an internal announcement: Taking off with contaminated wings will be treated as serious flight incident! And the related flight crew will be suspended for their entire life!

I’m not sure if this outcome is what Mr. sunburn’s expected. Or is he just wanna warn their folks not to board the China Southern.
Waiting for his reply……
