Alitalia: Leased plane in crash re-painted | Mail Online
I have no idea - - is this standard practice?
The article states:
Sound familiar?
I can't believe that crews were allowed to work on a mishap scene that quickly!

The article states:
Alitalia argued that the paint job was standard corporate practice to protect brand reputation and operated all over the world .
An Alitalia spokesperson said: ‘This is something that is done by airline companies in many countries and we are surprised that such a fuss is being made. It is a matter of brand protection.’
Passengers onboard said the Italian carrier's insignia was misleading because they thought they were flying on an Alitalia plane.
One female passenger told Italian media: ‘I bought the ticket online from the Alitalia website and all the markings on the plane are Alitalia. What happened is shameful.’

Dunno, buuuuuut - 135 operator I used to fly for put the company name in light blue lettering on a white aircraft. Supposedly so that one quick swipe with white paint could cover it. :-s

"quickly covered" I think I have heard of before - but actually repainted, AT THE CRASH SITE, is something I don't think I've ever run across before - and of course in my safety time it was hard to conceal a military aircraft to begin with in the first place!

Yes, it still happens. They'll remove the wreckage or paint over the logo, whichever they can accomplish first.
I heard from pilots who flew through DEN that they painted the logo of continental plane that went off the runway, but didn't see it myself.
Not really sure why the NTSB would allow that though.

When that nutjob stole a SkyWest plane in the middle of the night recently and drove it into the parking lot to kill himself they had the Delta name and colors painted over white just after sunrise.
Damage control indeed.

I remember Eastern having a DC-9 land very hard 20 - 25 years ago. The tail section separated (fairly common with that type, actually). I think the airplane was painted over onsite within a couple of hours - before most pictures were taken.
