TMAAT you diverted over a PG13 flick

Flight diverted after family raises concerns over PG-13 inflight - FOX 35 News Orlando

If I accept the article as fact, then I would have to speculate that communications between the cabin and cockpit misstated the father's level of dissatisfaction.

As a parent of elementary-school-age children, I support the family's complaint about the inflight movie.

The pax obviously don't get that the CA's understanding of the situation is colored by the info he gets from the cabin. And any sort of disturbance is not going to encourage the CA to leave the cockpit inflight to attempt to resolve things.

Remember when UAL used to be a classy operation? I do, and I'm not even 30 yet.

So, what is a company to do? Risk permanently traumatizing little Billy, or only show Snow White and Pinocchio?

And don't for a second think they will play Bambi!

Just the music gives me the chills!

You obviously don't have kids. This is an inappropriate movie for a flight. Not saying it was worth a diversion, just poor taste on Uniteds part.

I don't even like some G-rated movies for my kids! Why does Hollywood think they need to include sexual innuendo and subplots for my amusement during a kids' movie? I'm fine sucking it up and watching a kids' movie without any pathetic attempts to entertain me with double entendre, etc.

So yes, I would have complained, too, and probably covered the damned monitor, if it was within reach. If you don't have kids, you may not understand, but it's a pretty personal issue, and should be a very definite choice what you expose them to, and when.

rickair7777 04-05-2013 07:37 PM

Barring full frontal nudity, I would think that most PG-13 flicks would be fine for kids without the soundtrack...

Cue all the "oh my god if my child ever..." over protective, over controlling parents in 3, 2, 1......

Nope, no kids. Nor do I know the content of the movie. Nor do I know the ages of the kids in question.

My point was, if an airline is to provide entertainment, it should be entertaining. Admittedly, they must walk a fine line, but if they are going to offend no one, then even Barney and The Smurfs are off limits.

(Barney is supposed to have homosexual overtones, and The Smurfs are supposedly socialist propaganda)

As to the diversion, until proven otherwise, I'll assume the crew made the decision they thought appropriate.
