Why do you suggest this? I watched the video and it looked like the pilot bounced and over controlled the side slip (too much aileron). I could be wrong, but I remember a friend who is 747 typed told me that side slip landings in the 747 are prohibited for this very reason.

Any 747 dudes dudettes out there?

Looks to me like a VERY firm touchdown... with no correction at touchdown for the wing low crosswind technique....

would be interested to know what the winds were at the time of the incident

The wind sock is in the frame. It looks like a slight right quartering headwind, though a little difficult to tell. Watch it in sync with the action. It looks like a fairly stiff wind with some minor gusting. It does look like misapplication of controls however. It seems this is a combination of unfortunate events...

Sideslip landings are not prohibited, but the aircraft is limited to 5 degrees of bank during landing. There is a windsock visible during the video indicating a fairly strong right crosswind. The aircraft has left rudder applied as it touches down the first time. It appears the right wing spoilers extend a little higher than the left wing indicating right aileron being applied during the bounce, over correction

I'm a 400 pilot. This landing doesn't seem as bad as I've seen a lot of other guys do in the Boeings or C-5, myself included.

This is a sobering video, and will definitely be burned into the consciousness of my butt cheeks as they are puckering up during nasty crosswind landings from now on.

It's shocking to see how many close ones I've probably had. A 5 deg bank limit isn't much.

I have around 600 hours in the -400 and this was a pretty sobering video. It really makes you wonder how close you have been to a pod strike.

I would suspect you have been closer than you would have preferred; however almost doesn't count, so you are fine. I would be curious to know the criteria used to establish the bank limit. I'm not so sure it would be combined with dropping it in, and bending the wing as was demonstrated in the video.
