This happened at Piedmont 25 or so years ago, on the ground. This was before we couldn't carry "tools" through security - in fact we weren't screened at all. It was a simple case of not disarming the door, but somehow the bag deployed inside the airplane. The f/o, trapped and squeezed into a corner, slashed his way out with a buck knife. Couldn't do that today, of course.

It happened to us parked at the jetway once. The slide filled the entranceway and I believe, pinned someone for a while. Since then there are photographic instructions posted in the jetways instructing you how to deflate those things. It's fortunate nobody was hurt.

Are there deflation rings or something on those things? Other than the crash axe, what are the techniques to pop them?
