Western Alaska has been really warm. I just got back from my three week shift in Nome. The past few days it has been about -4c at about 8000.

Mother treks through Alaska fog to guide rescuers to plane crash - CNN.com

Another video/article with some information about the actions of the mother who led the rescuers to the crash site.

We can only imagine the anguish that poor young mother was going through trying desperately to save her baby while trekking through the dark in ice and snow and fog in search of help. It takes me back to my days flying light aircraft In Alaska and the young moms and babies I've hauled between villages. What an awesome responsibility we as aviation professionals have. And what lousy equipment and conditions we are given to do it in at times.

What a heart wrenching story....

If they are smart Hollywood producers will be
offering her millions for the rights to her story.
And our president should hand her his ridiculous
nobel prize.

I think I held more babies as a 207 pilot than at any other time in my life! The moms would always hand you the baby so they could climb in.

Sure enough..

I've held a bunch of those little black eyed cuties all bundled up and wearing seal skin hats. I flew a number of soon to be moms to the big city of Kotzebue or Nome too.

Never fails. Tragedies always bring out a troll. How about a little respect for the woman and the folks who died?
