Delta 767 Emergency Landing in MAD
"A Delta Airlines flight bound for New York was forced to make an emergency landing in Madrid Wednesday, after a hydraulics problem burst open part of the plane's wing shortly after takeoff.
Startled passengers aboard the Boeing 767-300ER snapped pictures of the jet's damaged wing, from which a compartment panel had fallen, exposing "mechanical innards," writes the New York Daily News. In one picture, an unidentified mechanical component sits on the wing, next to the hole from which it appears to have burst."
Hole In Plane Wing Forces Delta Flight's Emergency Landing In Madrid
Sorry for the HUFFPO article but it has the best pictures at this time.
I think it is safe to say that this is a mechanical malfunction. I am not sure what that component is.

Wow!
I think it is a spoiler-actuator, based on location, and similarities to aileron actuators I've seen in a hydraulics repair shop.
But the actuator does not appear damaged...it makes me wonder: did something "explode," or was work done in there before flight, and the panel over not secured properly?
I can't imagine an "explosion" so neatly removing the access panel above it......

Accident: Delta B763 at Madrid on Dec 5th 2013, burst tyre on takeoff, hydraulic failure, taxiway excursion after landing
Here is more detail/pictures. Apparently, a burst tyre at rotation. Kudos to the crew.

In the article a commenter says the component is the alternate anti-skid module. I have never changed one so I cannot confirm. I do know that it is not a spoiler PCA (actuator). I also see an accumulator in the picture.

An acquaintance of mine was on the flight. He stated he heard would sounded like a tire blowing out. I'm guess it was between V1 and Vr because he said the ride got rough. When they landed the right reverser did not come out and that the left reverser was still out when they stopped.
