AOPA Safety Seminars
 

Are these worth going to? There is one this week nearby in Albany. I was thinking of attending. They are free if you are a member, looks like it is going to be some accident test-case program. Would love to stop by if the information will be valuable to a private pilot.

By all means. These seminars are like getting recurrent training at the airlines. Which by the way, one of the reasons the accident rate is much lower at the airlines than in GA. I fly both.
It sounds interesting and in some cases it may qualify you for the Wings program.

I'm sure they are - just as the FAAST seminars are worthwhile.
Sometimes it depends on the effort you want to put forth into the participation too. It can't hurt being around other pilots and professionals. Enjoy yourself and make some new contacts/friends.

I attend every one I possibly can. Yes they are geared towards the GA pilot, but I learn something every time or reinforce some tidbit of general knowledge I may have forgotten. Well worth the time and some great people there as well.

I'd go for the social aspect and it is good entertainment and knowledge if you are rusty.

If you fly a lot (especially professionally) I'd imagine that a lot of it is "beneath" you; a lot are geared toward the weekend flier or 50 hour per year guy, but the case studies are always interesting.

Well it was great! I should have hit the restroom before hand but that fault is all on me.

The AOPA rep basically went through 3 accidents and we just worked back from the original crash site pictures trying to identify what may have caused the crashes. It was great for me because I got my PPL by strictly studying the jeppesen material. I didn't really have any classes/teaching outside of that, so all of the information was cool and new to me.

Also a lot of the people who were there were individuals who I'm sure I will get to know soon (lots of cap members were there). I decided I am going to join a CAP squad nearby and get on a path to fly for them. Even though my full-time job is IT, I want to continue to fly regularly, and doing it for the community would make it even cooler.

The AOPA does a great job with the seminars. For anyone thinking of going to one of the regional fly-ins this year I would say do it! I went to the San Marcos one last month and it was great:D

AOPA is great. I have the luxury of living near their Headquarters. They are based at KFDK which is where I fly out of 99% of the time. I've been working on getting a job with them. Hopefully I hear something soon. I have a couple friends that work for them now and love it.
