Default Alaska Jet Kills Deer In Santa Rosa Landing

Ooops. Poor dear.

An Alaska Airlines flight struck and killed a deer while landing at the Sonoma County Airport on Wednesday evening, an airline official confirmed.

The unusual deer collision occurred as the plane was landing but before it hit the ground. The plane landed safely but the animal died.

Bobbie Egan, a spokeswoman with Alaska Airlines, said she was told the passengers were “largely unaware of what happened.”

Flight 457 originated in Seattle and was making a stop in Santa Rosa before heading to Los Angeles. The flight’s passengers were rerouted to other planes.

Egan said the plane itself was thoroughly inspected and the only damage was to the tires, which were replaced. The plane returned to service Thursday morning.

Egan said she didn’t know why a deer was on the tarmac. Airport officials couldn’t be reached for comment Friday night.

North Pole Airways is now accepting applications for on-demand air freight. This is due to an unanticipated opening.

Applicants must have 1500 hours of PIC (Pulling in Coordination) and hold an ATP (Arctic Toyland Propulsion) rating.

Applicants must have at least 200 hours of multi-hoof time.

The window closes at noon on Dec 24. Applicants who have red or green extremities, to include the snout, tail, or antlers, will receive preference.

Probably a QX Q400 since the Alaska "Jets" don't go to Santa Rosa.

I stand corrected. Later news confirms it was a Q400.

Glad to hear the poor dear did not become minced meat.

You forgot;

TSA regulations now require that International Crew Member be registered as a KCM and carry valid crew credentials, a recent veterinarian clearance, (in lieu of an approved FAA Form 8500-8), and a valid passport from the County of Citizenship. Pre-Arrival and Post- Arrival manifest processing is desirable, but not required.

Applicants must be thoroughly familiar with ADIZ and eAPIS Procedure(s), NORAD Flight Coordination and the handling of Military Intercepts at low altitudes.

Was the deer in season? If not, that's a hell of a fine!
