Aviation safety CNN style

Cockpit audio from JetBlue's near-miss with plane

 More fake news courtesy of CNN. How many times does this kind of reporting happen in other areas where we may not be as familiar with the material?

The story is about "Jetblue 94" but the person doing the transcript decides they're saying "Deborah 94"....... genius.

"Traffic in sight" becomes "Traffic inside" and two aircraft stepping on each other on the radios is now the "alarm from the collision warning system".

UFB. Do they not have someone with a clue on retainer?

The used to have a 777 Captain as a commentator, Les Abend, but I think he got fed up with the insanity.

Here at CNN...we don't report the news, we ARE the news!!

They are "STUNNED" at the fact one flying VFR doesn't have to talk to air traffic controllers. Maybe CPDLC is inherently dangerous and we don't know it.
Any journalistic records, degrees, certification or sandscribe should be revoked. Pretty sad indeed

Not fake news. A few inaccurate details, but very much actual news.

"Fake news" is a popular buzzword today, but like most popular buzzwords, often inaccurately used.

The event in this case did occur, action was taken, and the matter is under investigation. Witness statements were included. ATC advised of traffic and did what they're supposed to do; separate IFR from IfR and IFR from VFR.

Three minor errors does not make it fake news.

I disagree. This isn't "fake news" because it actually happened. It is poor, lazy reporting because they didn't verify it with a subject matter expert prior to airing it.

[MOD EDIT]

I'm waiting for Scary Mary (I wouldn't put my family on an MD80) Schiavo chimes in.

NMuir 02-11-2017 12:30 PM

wow, I am now dumber for watching that...

NMuir 02-11-2017 12:31 PM

Now just take this one single story, and extrapolate it out to everything they report about politics, and you'll soon come to understand that the vast majority of "news" in this country is complete bunk.

Not just politics but EVERY subject. If they handle aviation this poorly they handle ALL subjects this poorly.

CNN is NOT fake news...it's stupid news...also known as entertainment.

It was a routine event: a traffic point out and visual acquisition of said traffic. Taking something unworthy of reporting and sensationalizing it with fallacies is a version of fake news. Absent any other information, viewers who watched that story will come away from it with a version of the "event" (or lack thereof) nowhere close to reality.
