They're going to kill off the RC-26 program? So they (Big Blue) really are out to gut the guard (and ARC in general)? That was in my future plans... probably not anymore. MRB is losing the C5 at the end of FY12 (fair odds that they get C17s). Its too bad about mrb those guys are still a real guard unit- like they all should be. Third hand info as well..all of the state brass knows which units are going to get chopped- it should be announced this month. The AF wants to gut the guard just look at the rainbow deal they stuffed all of the tanker units with. The C27 is another prime example, didn't Youngstown just recently acquire them? Now they might go away all together. I bet the big blue machine will be offering up a record pilot bonus in three to four years.

You are thinking of Mansfield, Baltimore has them aswell. Both were C-130 units. Both were BRAC'd in 2005. It would be nice to survive the next rounds of BRACs, but the writing appears to be on the wall.

For all of the bubbas out there counting in c17 replacement airframes had better get a good count of the ones already in the mix. 222 was already the buy. There are no extras. Which unit that already has C17s is going to give them up to replace your C5As or Herks? Better stand up a light a match for the tails you currently have because this looks like an easy way for Big Blue to have a BRAC without having a BRAC. In other words, we're taking your jets but we don't have anything else for you.

Specifically, for those C5A units out there that has leadership BSing folks about the possibility of inbound C17s, follow the money. The bases that are getting them have already been announced and POMd.
