Good Afternoon All,

More than thrilled to have received a CJO from FedEx as of a few weeks ago! I was told to expect a BI date of early next year (Jan/Feb timeframe).

Question for you all out there. Currently, moving to MEM is not in the cards for my family. With the last four of my SSN starting with a "2" I realize I will more than likely be getting the last of the litter for fleet/domicile options once I get to BI. However if you were in my shoes, what would be the best strategy to bid something that would allow me to be West Coast based the quickest. To give you some perspective, I live about 20 minutes from PSP, about 1 hour from ONT, and about 2 "ish" hours from LAX, SAN, and SNA.

LAX MD seems like it's not attainable right away, but perhaps it might be possible to get ANC MD right off the bat, which will allow me to transfer down to LAX when my seniority allows for it. Are ANC MD trips currently commutable? UPS runs a 747 between ONT-ANC 6x a week which seems like a good commuting option.

What about OAK 76? On paper, that seems like an easy commute. Dozens of flights a day between SoCal and the Bay Area, and if I ever had to in a pinch, it's a 7.5 hour drive.

Or should I be focused on something based in MEM, say for the sheer volume of trips going in and out of there? Maybe I'm missing something there....

Regardless, I feel like ONT will be the best place to commute from on company metal....

I appreciate everyone's thoughts and insight and can't wait to get started with you all!

This is just me.... You'll probably be forced into either the Bus or the 757 in MEM. With the Bus you'll have a seat lock because it's wide body pay. If you go to the 757 there will be a system bid late Spring/Early Summer and you can move where ever you want after being here for 8 months to make your decision. I doubt you'd be able to hold LAX in the Spring but OAK767 would be available or maybe even MEM777. That way you're not stuck on the Bus. So I'd bid the 757 ahead of the Bus....

This. The bus has been very, uhh, popular among the last few seats in each class lately it seems. Bid OAK76 first for sure, bidding MEM77 may get you some dh's so it's a little easier, but if you bid MEM75, you are not seat locked and when you can get to OAK76, it's only 5 days of differences or so vs. another 2 months in the school house, after a seat lock. In the mean time we have a lot of double deadheads and you will rocket up in seniority you should be able to hold them in a year or so.

Congrats on the CJO KP. Out of curiosity, is the Jan/Feb BI timeframe based on your availability, or is that just how backed up they are with training?

Classes likely already filled for the previous dates, which are probably very reduced in size for Nov/Dec due to Peak.

Thanks! I believe they are just a little backed up with training. I think the idea is to run two classes a month of around ~30 and go down to one class a month for Nov./Dec.

Congrats on the CJO, Kenny Powers! We need more washed up Big League pitchers who can still bring the heat. My advice is MD11 MEM. Best overall bidpack in the system and a chance to fly a Man’s airplane that will put hair on your chest and instantly give you the ability to arm wrestle grizzlies - and WIN!

Hilarious MD endorsement! Expect royalty checks when I use that zinger in the future.
