Mil Instructor Multi To SE Instructor?

Subscribe
Hello, I am looking at the Shepard Air Mil Instructor to GA Instructor, and it appears the process (after testing ) will allow me to have MEI added to my ticket?
- The goal is just to teach kids in SE airplanes in retirement.
- Currently have ATP Multi Commercial PPL priveliges.
- In the military, I was a Multi Instrument instructor.

The big question is that when I look at the Shepard Air site Q&A, it shows after the test, I will need to do a SE ATP checkride as well as a modified SE instructor ? I do not understand why I would need a SE ATP? The young folks who have instructor ratings usually have PPL Instrument and Comercial and not a SE ATP. Why would I need a SE ATP?
Thanks

I'm not quite clear on what you're asking but PPL has nothing at all to do with CFI privileges.

You need a CPL (or ATP) in category/class to get the corresponding CFI rating.

If your ASEL cert is just PPL, then you'll need to upgrade that to ASEL CPL or ATP. Since you already hold an ATP it's no big deal to do an add-on, although I suppose you could do an ASEL CPL checkride if you wanted to.

Without looking at the PTS, I suspect it might be fewer manuevers to do the ATP add-on.

What Rickair told you is correct. The easiest way to get from your MULTI CFI/CFII to ASEL CFI/CFII is to do the ASEL ATP add on check and then the ASEL CFI add on. Unfortunately, you may run into DPEs who don’t understand the rules and insist you can’t go straight to the ATP add on and must do the ASEL commercial add on instead. I ran into this myself. The commercial ACS will force you to do a few more maneuvers (power off 180, 8s around pylons, etc.) but is relatively low threat. Read the ACS and do a couple rides with a civilian CFI to make sure you meet required standards before the checkride. Same with the ASEL CFI add on.
