Soon will be heading off to FSI for Excel type rating. I believe the Excel is offered at San Antonio, Toledo and Orlando? Anyone have preferences on any of these locations? I am sure it greatly depends on the instructors---just curious about any other feedback or suggestions on any of these locations. Thanks!

With the service center in TOL closed, there's no reason to ever go there unless its convenient to your location...town is boring and COLD in the winter.

I'd suggest SAT...they have better BBQ than Orlando.

I got my type in San Antonio and yes the bbq is better in texas but I do all my recurrent in MCO . MCO is a better facility imo from the instructors to the class rooms and sims. And I hate Florida and truly wish it would break off and float away but I would still rather go to MCO than SAT for school.

Don't forget Wichita (ICT). Depending on the time of year it's not a bad place to spend a little time. Some of the instructors have Cessna test/demo pilot experience.

I've also been through Orlando. I'm not a big fan of Florida either, but there is definitely more going on around there. Another good group of instructors.

Good luck!

Quote: Florida really can't just float away. It looks like that on the map but it really has more to do with sea levels and plate tectonics and stuff. Its not actually floating.

It was my half hearted attempt at humor

I've done the XL at ICT and MCO and Wichita was a more educational experience. My academics instructor was a Cessna test/demo pilot. He actually gave some good information besides flipping through the slides!

Orlando is good too though.

Florida is not floating. It is just being repulsed equally by the ocean and sky.

heck I'd go to San Antonio.... lots to do and see around the downtown area, great food, BBQ, steaks, Mexican, etc... and not that expensive

the downtown Orlando area is very expensive, tailored for European tourists...
