Targeting a specific company's employees is probably a no-go unless they have some skill you can't get elsewhere.

Paying them to sit idle for an extended period while "waiting for training" would not pass muster.

The can hire all the LCC pilots they want (free country), they just have to be careful about picking on one company.
What, you don't believe the rumots about SKYW shutting down Mesa and poaching all their pilots?

The regionals need to be shuttered and all Flying restored to the mainline. Want to work for United? The most junior airplane is the Dash 8. Lower pay? Yes, but with a seniority number, a career path, mainline work rules, and a retirement.

It's the only practical way to handle the pilot shortage without watering down minimum hiring requirements.

Commuters/"regionals" flying 50...70...90 seat jets was never anything more than a whipsaw anyway.
