2. Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 23.A.1. and B.1., the
following apply to a pilot subject to a regulated age restriction:
a. If the pilot is involuntarily excessed from his current crew
position and, as a result of his restriction, he is ineligible to
be awarded or assigned any other crew position, the pilot
may be furloughed.
b. The pilot may be bypassed on recall from furlough until
there is an available crew position that he is eligible to be
awarded or assigned.
c. A restricted pilot who cannot move to or be accommodated
as a second offi cer from another crew position because
his relative seniority is less than the current population of
second offi cers or there are no second offi cer crew seats,
shall be offered the opportunity to retire as provided in
the Agreement. Following a pilot’s rejection of the offer,
the pilot shall be released from employment as provided
in Section 22.B.1., and shall not be considered as having
been furloughed in cases where the only crew status the
pilot can occupy is second offi cer.

My question is, as it relates to 2a: If an over 60s/o takes a furlough(perhaps because he thinks the age will change), will that trigger the no vlt clause during furloughs?

Of the 100+ 727's at FedEx, and the 20 or so DC-10's, how many Second Officers are there? How many of them are over 60?

Or, same question for UPS (727-100's, DC-8's, and 747 classics)

Just trying to see what may happen to advancement if age 60 is changed. Thanks.

Roughly 30 out of 450 in the 72 and 75 of 150 in the 10. We also have a few that took a leave of absence, so they don't show up in those numbers. However, we do have some fairly junior guys mixed in the over 60 group. We went through a period in the late nineties where we were hiring some guys in their mid-fifties.

Even if only 20-30 of those guys bid and the company elects to train them to a wide-body captain seat, that, combined with the delay in retirements, will effectively stop the music for several bid cycles.

Bid the seat you want now. (IMO)

Yep, bid the seat you want now or be happy where you are because the possibility of the music stopping for a couple of yrs is possible.

By the time the back seats go away the retirement age will be 65 or 70.

About 230 out of about 270 S/Os at UPS are over 60. Most of the under 60 folks are on the 727 fleet, which is going away in August. The company says the over 60 folks won't be furloughed, rather absorbed into the 747 and DC-8 fleets. Should be interesting.
