Quote: Last guy I flew with was telling everyone we’ve lost a hundred guys that were still in their first year. Seemed a wee bit high to me, maybe a handful...

Maybe guys that wanted another legacy job anyways.

100 seems high. But, in my small sample group (volunteer for Compass Project), I know of 3 that left outta 30ish I sponsored this year. Still a bit high but maybe/maybe not the same at other airlines.

How would he know? Regular line pilots aren't given that info.

People continuously make up silly stuff like that.

That infamous "guy in the Jimpseat" knows all. Followed by his brother in the training department and their cousin at the FAA. All three of these guys seem to have all the latest info. Everyone has talked to this guy except me. 20 years and I still haven't met him.

Quote: Sounds like an assignment that could be refused. Golden is not negotiable (though admittedly if you were stuck out there's not much that can be done - but then don't "ask" for premium just make sure you get it via any necessary channels).
Exactly, this is a clear case where I'm not going to "fly now, grieve later." I'm going home from wherever I am, company provided transport or not.

Oh,

I've met a few of those guys.... One told me "787s in PHX because Hawaii-and because I golf with Doug and he tells me stuff." We see how that turned out.

I looked at our list and it looks like in the last year (since July 2016) 12 first year new hires have resigned and a total (including the 12) of 18 new hires since 2014 resigned. So not nearly 100. There were 163 resignations out of the entire list, mostly those were guys who were furloughed and didn't elect to return after the SLI.

Oddly enough, while researching this, I found out a buddy of mine who was hired this spring, resigned on his first day of ground school. Not for another legacy, just said it wasn't for him. I couldn't believe it, as he hadn't even experienced the job before coming to this conclusion...
