A good friend of mine was on a jumpseat last night from DEN said the Captain is a block rep, and straight from the Captain's mouth (with 7 other guys present) the Rep said the MEC "only" will be making the vote for the retirement not the crew-force as they are not required to send it to the pilots. When questioned about it, he just shrugged his shoulders, and said, "That's just the way it's going to be..."

It puzzles me how on Earth this has gone this far and no ones seems to care! They have presented a plan to the company and we don't know what was in it??? I'm starting to wonder what futures have been promised to this MEC for cashing in our retirements... Wake up FEDEX PILOTS!!

Anyone with more knowledge of this? If this is how we're being represented I'm dumbfounded by ALPA here!

They can’t change the CBA without a vote, if they do we sue them and they will fold like a cheap M&H tie.

I sure hope your friend misunderstood, because that sounds completely unethical and impossible.

I'm extremely worried by the attitude that seems to coming from these reps regarding this retirement idea.

We were told in the beginning this was a fact finding mission only, and we would be presented the information, and included in the decision making process. All of a sudden we are told to trust them, as they present the company a proposal. Forgive me if I am not as trusting as they would like as this effects my life in retirement, and I'm happy with the plan wording that we have now. We have not been presented any additional options or ideas other than what the MEC thinks is the "Best" option...?

So far we have generalities, but the company has been given undoubtedly useful information to base decisions while we have not. This is completely unacceptable IMO...

Someone misunderstood or misrepresented. Absolutely no validity to what your friend is suggesting. Nothing can change without the membership's vote. This is not "side letter" material. Perhaps he was thinking about the MEC's ability (if they chose to do so) to authorize the NC to negotiate something without the membership's input/consent and authorize any TA's to be sent to a vote. All without ever consulting us until there's something to vote on. Which they can do but have sworn up and down they will not do.

These guys seem in such a hurry to give away the best Airline A plan pension in the world I'm beginning to not be phased by anything I see anymore... It's obvious the main leadership is on a timeline because they're on track to retire before the next CBA is negotiated.

I'm afraid after voting it down, they will go back to the drawing board and tweak it a bit more and revote and revote until they get a passing deal...

Curious to know; why cant they change this through a side letter? Many things have been agreed to in this way before.

Well, from the info you posted, I'm going to guess Block 7 rep. Easy enough for someone to reach out.

According to the ALPA email a week or so ago the MEC (MEC only) will vote to on whether to negotiate with the company for the VB plan. Any TA still would need to be voted on by the membership. (As I understand things)

The sheep here will vote for anything.
