Filling Out the addendum on Airline Apps for Delta and United and both have a yes/no question very similar that I might be interpreting wrong. Question 10 states "Have you ever been the subject of an evaluation board or been removed from flight status, downgraded, or failed any portion of flight training either civilian or military?". So when I first got hired at my Current 121 regional I failed my initial ATP/Type check ride. I busted a missed approach altitude and rechecked the next day with no problem. Just a bad day and an honest mistake on my end. Reading the portion "failed any portion of flight training" I believe I should click yes and give the explanation. But what worries me is what else is on the line, specifically the part about being downgraded or subject to a evaluation board. I have never failed a check ride before or even came close to. Messing up one check ride vs getting downgraded I believe are very different things. I already owned up to the failure in another question as well. So does question 10 mean failing out of training completely or just failing my check ride as well. I feel like the safe thing to do would just answer yes but I do not want to hurt the chances of me getting an interview. It would be great if someone who has had a failed initial, transition, or upgrade and got an interview would be able to clear this up so I know exactly what to put.

One might be inclined to check the box just to be safe, but then you're hurting your app's score by checking an additional bad box.

I think you could make the case that you failed a checkride (already accounted for in the other question), not the training. Bit of a grey area, but I think you could explain the logic. I think they're trying to ID folks who struggled along he way, ie written exams, FTD, mil phase checks, etc.

I would check the "yes" box in your case for the training failure you mentioned.

If it makes you feel better, I've never failed a check ride or been subject to an evaluation board, but I was downgraded at a former 121 carrier due to a bankruptcy/furlough/reduction of workforce. I checked the "yes" box and was hired at my current employer which is one of the two in the thread title.

It's better to be honest and explain yourself at an interview than to be escorted out of the building and told to never reapply.

I wouldn't have checked that box. The obvious intent of the question was "downgraded for cause", not due to seniority, or a self-initiated downgrade for QOL.

Yes it's a bit safer, but you also delayed your interview call by X amount of time by checking one more bad box than you really needed to.

If someone was going to hold me to the letter vice the obvious intent, I'd consider that a trick question, and wouldn't want to work there anyway.

Sounds like you need to check the yes box for failing the initial ATP check ride. The question is written as a catch all to include FNAEB/FFPBs etc for military folks as well as downgrades and training failures. Check yes and explain which portion applies to you.

Assuming you've checked the "failed checkride" box, I see no reason to check this as well. You've already disclosed the failed checkride and you are not trying to hide anything.

It's like to stupid speeding ticket question everyone was all up in arms about re: paying a fine. That was referring to a criminal record whereas you already disclosed your ticket in the appropriate section.
