If you don't have an idea of which way is the best way to go...split your contributions, easy enough to do.

One of the sites I periodically read has recommended Roth during the low tax years, and traditional to minimize taxes as your earnings increase.

I like having the ability to avoid RMDs by rolling my Roth 401k into a Roth IRA (technicalities are good to point out, btw)

The benefit to saving that $$ for last is the ability to leave it to the kids or grandkids, as well as having a source of funds available to tap that won't push me into a higher tax bracket during retirement.
