Does anyone get as furious as I do when I see how much alpa dues gets taken out of our paycheck. Atleast the internal squabbling among our own council is entertaining I guess.
1% should be in everyone's mind for next contract...
Just saying.

I see no problem with it. Excellent ROI.

I’m pretty sure you can negotiate a decrease in union dues in a PWA.

I am pretty ambivalent on ALPA. They are good at some stuff and suck at other things. In my opinion National has turned into a bloated bureaucracy that needs an overhaul. A good start would include lowering our dues to 1%. This might even help bring the APA onboard.

I think we should hire these guys to give the union a "once over" and make some recommendations:

Yep, it’s about time. Especially with itemized deductions going away for most of us. Up until now, at least you knew you were always going to hit the 2% AGI floor to start counting deductions...

Over the past cycle or two the ALPA national intake has swelled and services haven’t increased commensurately. 2-3 years ago our mec was pushing for a dues cut and I seem to remember 1.5% being tossed around as easily doable. This was before the last round of contracts was signed so I would imagine the organization could operate on an even lower dues percentage now.

I’m a big supporter of ALPA and believe sticking together on a national level is a major reason we’ve seen the recovery we have over the past few years. That said, there is no reason to overfund the mission either.

Dues cut needs to be a top agenda item at the next BOD.

Dues is not on my list of items I am concerned with. Unionized labor is under attack from many sides, let's not attack it from within.

Having worked at two non-union air carriers and a poorly organized union airline carrier (non-ALPA), the ALPA dues I pay are the best return on investment in my career.

1% is far more than enough. National is a worthless blob with no goals.

The American pilots may save us. They are stupid enough to join ALPA, but smart enough to force a dues decrease.

Should be 1%, but it will be 1.5% after they join.

Agreed.

For every one of you who say they're stupid for joining ALPA, there is one of them saying their stupid to stay with APA. Having worked there, there is a lot of hate for APA. Their "chitchat" makes ours look tame.
