The 787-10 starts showing up soon. It is a 12 hour airplane. I wouldn't be surprised to see an ORD and or EWR 787 base. Europe and SA flying. It is a great replacement for the early 777's lUAL bought. It is their natural replacement.
I still remember the codeshare that CAL and UAL had, which was basically an outsourcing of CAL to United. While it was true we didnt let code share partners fly anything bigger than a 50 seater, we would fly passengers into a United hub with their CAL bought ticket and then go get on a 747 and fly to Asia, etc. We were never going to get a big widebody fleet like United while we were outsourcing this much flying.
If youre interested, here is the list of the last one filed. With the exception of 2 routes flown by CAL, the rest was all UAL.
Continental and UNITED on 21AUG09 issued several applications for codeshare routes.
