Yup! And the company is wanting more of this?

Don’t forget scope on the JV front is just as important as the RJ front.

This isn't JV it is Star Alliance. This has been allowed for a long time. Still, I wish it were us.

The 787-10 starts showing up soon. It is a 12 hour airplane. I wouldn't be surprised to see an ORD and or EWR 787 base. Europe and SA flying. It is a great replacement for the early 777's lUAL bought. It is their natural replacement.

Right now, with the seating configurations, it would be a stretch to have the 787-10 replace the 777 A's. The A's now have 364 seats. I don't know what the UAL configuration will be but many are around 300 seats.

Remember, the A350 order was supposed to replace the early 777's. The oldest of which was built in 1994. If someone were to ask me, a good replacement for the 777's would be a new 777.

Yup. DAL led the way in giving away 50 seat scope, they’re now doing it giving away their upper end widebody flying to JV. The die has been cast.

Don't be surprised if some, or all, of the 787-10 orders get deferred.

I still remember the “codeshare” that CAL and UAL had, which was basically an outsourcing of CAL to United. While it was true we didn’t let code share partners fly anything bigger than a 50 seater, we would fly passengers into a United hub with their CAL bought ticket and then go get on a 747 and fly to Asia, etc. We were never going to get a big widebody fleet like United while we were outsourcing this much flying.

If you’re interested, here is the list of the last one filed. With the exception of 2 routes flown by CAL, the rest was all UAL.

Continental and UNITED on 21AUG09 issued several applications for codeshare routes.

Additional planned codeshare routes are the following:
UNITED operated by Continental
Newark – Beijing
Newark – Shanghai

Continental operated by UNITED
Chicago – Beijing
Chicago – Shanghai
San Francisco – Beijing
San Francisco – Guangzhou (should UNITED decides to go ahead with the launch)
San Francisco – Shanghai
Washington – Beijing (service via Tokyo in W09/10 season)

Chicago – Cancun
Chicago – Cozumel
Chicago – Los Cabos
Chicago – Mexico City
Chicago – Puerto Vallarta
Denver – Cancun
Denver – Los Cabos
Denver – Puerto Vallarta
Los Angeles – Cancun
Los Angeles – Los Cabos
Los Angeles – Mexico City
Los Angeles – Puerto Vallarta
San Francisco – Cancun
San Francisco – Los Cabos
San Francisco – Mexico City
San Francisco – Puerto Vallarta
Washington Dulles – Cancun
Washington Dulles – Mexico City

*points between US and Japan, which UNITED operates:
Tokyo – Chicago
Tokyo – Honolulu
Tokyo – Los Angeles
Tokyo – San Francisco
Tokyo – Seattle
Tokyo – Washington Dulles
Osaka – San Francisco

*points between US and Vietnam
San Francisco – Hong Kong – Ho Chi Minh (Hong Kong currently not included in codeshare application)

I dont really agree here Dave...
The UA configurations on the 772 range from 266-364. I doubt a new airplane will be outfitted like the current 777As are - The Old UA Business class seat which is 2-4-2 config. But, if you take the Singapore 787-10 seat map (334 seats) and put in the Old UA Business seat instead of the Singapore Business seat, Id imagine you'd get pretty close to 360. If not, also consider that the 777A has 3-4-3 in coach and the Business Cabin does not extend aft of the 2L/R doors. I don't have info on the area of the seating cabins, but I think they're very close. All depends on how they want to configure the plane.

It is not a total loss......SFO - AKL is now going year around with this announcement.

Previously we were seasonal and during the summer NZ flew daily and 3 times weekly. Now NZ is only daily and UA is taking over the 3 times weekly flight year around.

doesn't help ORD pilots .......

JC told me the final 787-10 configuration will have 318 seats. I’m not talking about Jesus.
