How Do I Get To YOUR Major?

Subscribe
Mil pilot looking to get out and get an ATP, hours in a regional. My goal is get into a PNW regional (Preferably Compass or Horizon) and stay there until I am competitive for either Alaska or Delta. However I don't think I could say no to any major. I am trying to move to Seattle.

I understand every place has its issues, but a Major is a Major is a Major. Especially if I'm on the outside wanting to be on the inside.

I met with a career counselor and he advised that once I get into a regional I make captain as quickly as possible and then obtain 1000 hours TPIC as captain ASAP. At that point majors MIGHT start to look at me. I am 27, and I suspect I may be spending anywhere from 10 to 25 years before getting called by a major.

Assuming I can get into a regional, what can I do once I am there to improve my chances and make myself more competitive for any Major?

How are you a mil pilot about to get out at 27?

And why would you have so little military time that going to the regionals is the only option? And in times of peak hiring, why would you have to spend 10-25 years there before getting called by the majors?

You are either badly misinformed, trolling, or joking, I suspect.

Guard/Reserve guy maybe? Would make sense if he wasn’t the standard active-duty type.

Why? The responses are entertaining.

From elsewhere here, he claims to be E-6 pilot. I think it’s a USAF/USN blended assignment.

If you’re 27 years old and a winged aviator, if you’re current when you superate you’re qualified. Judging by your age you’ve got a few years to MSR. Only guys going to the regionals are the ones who were flying a desk and need to get current, or the ones who haven’t been called yet and need a paycheck.

Either way, if anyone said you need to do 10-25 years at a regional, they’re either severely misinformed, trying to actively dissuade you, or a complete moron.
